Back to School Backpack Craft
My favorite part of back to school has always been filling up the backpack. This year, before filling up the real backpack to head back to school, you can fill up our Back to School Backpack Craft, too. This is a super cute back to school craft that we adore, and hope you do, as well!

We have a Free Printable Backpack Template with all the pieces you would need, plus some hand drawn supplies to stuff in the front pocket of the backpack. Because a backpack is better when it’s filled with goodies. You can then add your name or design your backpack however you’d like, too.

Paper Backpack Back to School Craft
To make this adorable back to school backpack craft, you’ll first need to print our backpack template.

You’ll also need cardstock in the colors of your choice, a black marker, scissors, and a glue stick.
Back to School Backpack Craft Supplies Needed
- Backpack Template
- Cardstock – colors of your choice
- Black marker
- Scissors
- Glue stick
School Backpack Craft Step by Step Directions
Begin by printing the backpack template and cut out the pieces.

Trace the large main body of the backpack on the color cardstock of your choice and cut out. Choose a different color for the half pocket template shape and cut out. We used a third color for the rest of the pieces. You can use whatever colors in whatever combinations you would like. You will also need two long strips, about 1.5” or so wide, cut the full length from one of the colors of cardstock.

Now, apply glue to three sides of the half circle pocket, leaving the top, flat edge unglued. Adhere the pocket to the bottom of the main backpack shape.

Flip the backpack over and glue the handle in place at the top of the backpack.

Bend the ends of the two long strips. Apply glue to just the folded ends and press in place at the sides of the backpack.

Next, flip the backpack back over to the front. Use a black marker to draw zipper lines along the top of the backpack, as well as along the top edge of the pocket.

Then, glue one end of the final rectangular flap shape to the back of the backpack. Bring the other end to the front and glue in place.

Use the black marker to draw a circle button for the flap.

Finally, cut out the school supplies from the template.

Insert all the supplies in the pocket of the backpack.

Now, leave as is or customize your back to school backpacks however you’d like! Write your name or decorate with stickers, drawings, you name it!
