Cardboard Roll Yarn Wrapped Mermaid

The cardboard roll in this craft acts as the body base, which is rolled in your color choice of multicolor yarn. Then, with the template pieces, the remainder of the mystical creature is formed. Add a few details and your mermaid is ready to swim and delight!

For this Cardboard Roll Yarn Wrapped Mermaid Craft you will need our Cardboard Roll Mermaid Template, clean toilet paper size cardboard roll, multicolor yarn, cardstock in brown and other assorted colors, a blue and red marker, metallic markers, scissors, and glue.
Cardboard Roll Yarn Wrapped Mermaid
Supplies needed:
- Cardboard Roll Mermaid Template
- Cardboard roll
- Multicolor yarn
- Cardstock – brown, blues, purple, green, yellow, orange, etc.
- Sharpies – blue, red
- Metallic markers
- Scissors
- Glue
Begin by printing the mermaid template. Cut out the pieces.
Press the cardboard roll flat enough to get scissors around. Cut in half. Reshape round.
Make 2 slits roughly ½” in on both sides of the cardboard roll, on both ends.
Insert one end of yarn into a slit.
Wrap the yarn around the roll until the middle of the roll is covered. Insert the other end of the yarn into another slit.
Now, the smaller circle and strip template piece trace on brown cardstock and cut out. The larger circle and remainder of the hair pieces trace on the color hair of your choice, yellow, red, orange, pink, purple, etc.. Cut out. The tail piece trace and cut out the tail color of choice.
Glue the smaller circle to the center of the larger circle.
The hair pieces are then glued over the top of the smaller circle as shown in the image above.
Draw eyes and a mouth with the blue and red markers.
Glue to the top center of the strip.
Insert the strip into the slits in the cardboard roll.
Now glue the ponytail piece to the side of the head. Also, fold in the arms and glue together.
Add detail to the tail with a metallic marker.
Insert the tail into the bottom slit.
