Earth Day is a reminder that we can do more. More than anything, I want to make sure my kids have a world full of beauty that they can rely on as they grow older. Less waste, less toxins, a greater reason to say thank you, mom. As such, during one of my many visits to Walmart, I picked up a few boxes of Bigelow Tea.
What does tea have to do with Earth Day? A lot, especially when it’s family-owned Bigelow Tea. Not only are they an American company that makes quality tea, but through Bigelow’s SustainabiliTea Program, they show that they are serious about doing the right thing by protecting the environment, preserving our land, and reducing waste. In fact, there is 0% waste going to landfill from Bigelow’s three facilities.
It only makes sense that #AmericasTea Bigelow Tea would see us off for our Earth Day activities. Of course, we had to have a few drinks of tea before we started. Their Green Tea is a treat for my oldest son and the Perfect Peach, a herbal variety, is a favorite of mine. With a foil pouch for freshness, you’re sure to have a great tea time every time.
We then gathered our supplies to do our part for Earth Day. While tea is great to drink, you can also use all of Bigelow’s packaging in different ways as you’ll see. These are the 3 ideas we used to celebrate and maintain the beauty of our world:
The one activity that I really wanted to make sure we did was removing trash from our neighborhood. With each of my kids carrying their own bags for sorting recyclables and trash, we set out though it didn’t take long for our bags to fill. I love that it became like a game for my kids, who could collect the most, while also a great lesson in how much is wasted on such a daily basis and how gross trash really makes our world. Don’t litter, kids!
We have an alley behind our house, which is where a lot of trash accumulates. A little cleanup, however, and it began to look so much better!
Tea Grounds in Plants
Tea isn’t just good for people, our plants love it, too. Did you know that you can recycle tea grounds as fertilizer in your garden? Since Bigelow Tea bags, tags and string are 100% biodegradable, all you need to do is throw your used tea bags in your garden and let whatever you grow enjoy them.
Earth Treasure Box
A great activity to do with kids are Earth treasure boxes using Bigelow’s tea box. Picking up branches, bark, rocks, probably even some bugs, my kids filled them up with whatever they found of interest. Because the Bigelow Tea boxes are biodegradable as well, we left them placed neatly outside just in case there was anything alive in there. It’s a representation of the beauty and wonder of our world and why Earth Day, and every day, it’s so important to do our part.
