Coffee Container Leprechaun Trap

Catch those leprechauns this St. Patrick’s Day with this fun Coffee Container Leprechaun Trap! With most of the supplies you can grab from the dollar store, this is a really fun St. Patrick’s Day craft that you do for very little. But it’s shiny and gold, so leprechauns are sure to be lured in!

Plus, it’s always great when you can reuse items you already have on hand and may be throwing away. I know I go through a lot of coffee. Just fill up the container with all kinds of treasures that leprechauns will love then watch as they get trapped in!

Coffee Container Leprechaun Trap Craft

To make our leprechaun trap you will first need an empty and clean coffee container. The rest of the supplies include green construction paper, green paper shred, yellow craft sticks, mini craft sticks, gold coins, beads, foam shapes, shamrocks, glue, and scissors.

Craft Supplies Needed

  • Coffee container
  • Green construction paper
  • Green paper shred
  • Gold coins
  • Shamrock beads
  • Glittery foam shapes
  • Glittery shamrocks
  • Yellow popsicle sticks
  • Mini popsicle sticks
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Tape

Leprechaun Trap Craft Step by Step Directions

Cover the coffee container with construction paper.

Wrap container with paper.

You can glue the paper to the container or tape it. 

Fill the container with paper shred about ¾ full. 

Fill with gold coins and glittery shapes.

Add a few foam shapes and gold coins in the container. 

Stick shamrock and gold coins to lid of container.

Glue or tape a shamrock and gold coins to the lid of the container. Use strong tape to attach one side of the lid to the container.

Use craft stick to prop lid open.

Use a popsicle stick to pry the lid open on the container. You can set the popsicle stick on top of a few items (I used the foam gold coins) to help it to stay propped up. 

Glue mini craft sticks to two yellow craft sticks.
Create ladder.

To create the ladder, use two yellow popsicle sticks. Glue mini popsicle sticks to the back. Set aside to dry.

Prop ladder against container.

Once dry, prop the ladder up against the container.

Place shiny, glittery, and gold objects around outside of container.

Place other shiny gold or green objects around the container and set out to try to catch a Leprechaun!
