Butterflies and colorful just go together, like our Colorful Paper Strip Butterflies. We also really love our Accordion Fold Butterflies, these Smiley Face Butterflies, and our 4 Leaf Clover Butterflies are fun for St. Patrick’s Day.
For these Colorful Paper Strip Butterflies, you will need lots of colors of construction paper. The more colors, the better. The rest of the supplies include glue, scissors, small googly eyes, and a black marker for details.
Colorful Paper Strip Butterflies
Supplies needed:
- Construction paper – multiple colors
- Small googly eyes
- Black marker
- Scissors
- Glue stick/glue
Begin by cutting long strips of paper about ½” wide. You will also need 1 thicker strip, about 1” wide.
Bring 4 strips of paper together in the center and glue. Bring the ends of the 4 strips towards the center and glue each, layered on top of the other.
Fold a 1” strip in half. Apply glue stick to both sides and lay the 4 strips on the top half, closer to the fold. Bring the other half up and adhere together.
Curl the top of thicker strip. Glue in place if needed.
Adhere small googly eyes. Form antennae with a super thin piece of paper, folded in a V. Glue to the back of the curled strip.
Draw detail with the black marker on the body of the butterfly. Wavy lines, dots, whatever you like to add interest.
