Colorful Tissue Paper Birds
We have a mama bird and her nest of babies practically right outside our front door right now. The kids and I are very excited to watch them grow big enough to fly away. Today’s craft is inspired by those birds, though quite a bit more colorful. I’m really excited about this Colorful Tissue Paper Birds Craft, because it’s so colorful and vibrant and darling, and did I mention colorful? I can’t help it, they just make me happy.
The main part of our Colorful Tissue Paper Birds Craft is made from a triangle of craft sticks. Glue the craft sticks in a triangle shape on a sheet of tissue paper. Then, cut the tissue paper around the craft sticks, and spread a layer of Mod Podge to make everything stick.
Squares of different colored tissue paper are used to decorate the birds. At this point, simply proceed to stick the tissue paper squares randomly around the triangle. More Mod Podge, some black cardstock, colorful construction paper for the wings, and googly eyes complete our Colorful Tissue Paper Birds Craft.

Supplies needed:
- craft sticks
- tissue paper – assorted colors
- construction paper – black, yellow, and assorted colors
- small googly eyes
- scissors
- Mod Podge
- paint brush
- school glue
Begin by gluing the craft sticks in a triangle shape on a sheet of tissue paper.
Trim the tissue paper around the craft sticks, leaving some left over the edges. Carefully turn triangle over and spread a layer of Mod Podge. Cut squares of different colored tissue paper. Begin layering the squares across the Mod Podge on the triangle and cover with more Mod Podge as you go. Finish by spreading the Mod Podge over the edges and flatten the excess against the back of the triangle.
Then, cut wings out of two different colors of construction paper, layered so they’re both the same size. Position so the back is slightly longer and the color is peeking over the front color. Do this for both sets for each bird. Glue the wings to the back of the main bird triangle.
While the front is still wet with Mod Podge, add googly eyes. Also, cut a small triangle of yellow paper for the beak. Also while the front is still wet, cut feet out of the black cardstock and adhere to the front with more Mod Podge.
Cut spiky hair out of the black paper. Glue the hair to the back.
Let it all dry completely.
