Cotton Ball Stamped Shamrock Craft

This is such a fun, quick, and vibrant St. Patrick’s Day painting project. And yes, we have a Free Printable Shamrock Template to make it even easier! So great for kids of all ages, because who doesn’t love to stamp paint with cotton balls?

Cotton Ball Stamp Shamrock Craft

To make this shamrock art project you will first need our shamrock template. The remainder of the supplies include heavy cardstock, acrylic paints in the colors of the rainbow, clothespins and cotton balls to make the stamps, and scissors.

Shamrock Cotton Ball Stamping Supplies Needed

  • Shamrock Template
  • Heavy white cardstock
  • Acrylic paints – red, orange, yellow, greens, blue, purple
  • Clothespins
  • Cotton balls
  • Scissors

Cotton Ball Stamping Shamrock Craft Step by Step Directions

Begin by printing the shamrock template on heavy cardstock and cut it out. We traced ours on green cardstock and cut out again, but that’s an optional step. You will want the shamrock on heavy cardstock, however.

Pour rainbow paint colors on paper plate.

Now, gather your rainbow of paint colors and pour on a paper plate.

Clasp cotton ball in clothespin, one per color.

Also, make the cotton ball stamps by clasping a cotton ball in a clothespin. You will want one stamp for each color.

Dip cotton ball in paint color.
Stamp around shamrock.

Then, place the shamrock cutout in the center of a sheet of heavy white cardstock. Dip a cotton ball in one of the rainbow colors and begin stamping around the shamrock.

Keep stamping, being careful not to move shamrock.

Be careful not to move the shamrock. You can always lightly apply a couple pieces of looped masking tape to hold the shamrock in place.

Continue stamping until page is full.
Stamp until page is full.

Continue stamping until the page is a rainbow of colors.

Remove the cutout.

Finally, once you’ve stamped all around the shamrock, remove the cutout.

Also stamp in green.
Green cotton ball stamped.

You can also do the same process, but use a few different shades of green paint.

Use cotton balls to stamp around a shamrock for a super fun and quick St. Patrick's Day art project

Materials

  • Shamrock Template
  • Heavy white cardstock
  • Acrylic paints - red, orange, yellow, greens, blue, purple
  • Clothespins
  • Cotton balls
  • Scissors

Instructions

  7. Continue stamping until the page is a rainbow of colors.
  8. Finally, once you’ve stamped all around the shamrock, remove the cutout.
  9. You can also do the same process, but with only green paint. Use a few different shades of green for interest.

Notes

You can always lightly apply a couple pieces of looped masking tape to hold the shamrock in place.
