Craft Stick Chalkboard Easel
Backpacks and pencils and paper, oh my! It’s that time again. For math worksheets and spelling tests. This Craft Stick Chalkboard Easel Craft is such a great back to school craft, one of my new favorites, actually. But it could also be a darling teacher’s gift, perfect piece of motivation on a homework desk, even a fun place card on a party table, too.
In fact, I don’t think there would be a cuter desk than one adorned with an A+ Craft Stick Chalkboard Easel and a few of our worm-wrapped Rock Apples.
For our Craft Stick Chalkboard Easel Craft you will need 5 regular craft sticks each. Plus black cardstock, chalk-colored paper, a white chalkboard marker, Sharpie color markers, a heavy duty glue stick, and scissors. For extra hold, you could use hot glue instead of the glue stick, but I usually don’t have the time to wait while the gun warms and all that. The heavy duty glue stick will hold just fine.

Supplies needed:
- Craft sticks
- Black cardstock
- Colored paper – pink, yellow, light blue, white
- White chalkboard marker
- Sharpie color markers
- Glue stick
- Scissors
Begin by forming 4 craft sticks into a square.
Use the glue stick to adhere the craft sticks where they meet.
Cut a square of black cardstock to fit the craft stick square. Apply glue stick around all 4 sides of the black cardstock and glue against the craft sticks.
Gently flip the craft stick square over and draw your message with the white chalkboard marker. We also used the colored Sharpies for added interest.
Apply a good coating from the glue stick along one edge of the remaining craft stick. Hold in place against the top of the bottom craft stick, forming a ledge, until it’s secure. This is where you could use hot glue instead. Make sure the glue dries completely.
Cut 2 small squares from the colored paper.
Roll the paper as tight as you can. Glue the end to secure.
Apply another good coating from the glue stick along the rolled paper and gently glue in place along the ledge and against the black cardstock.
Take a rectangle of black cardstock that’s double the size as the chalkboard black cardstock square and fold in half, or roughly thereabouts. Just make sure the stand part is the same size as the chalkboard square.
Apply glue to the back of the other folded side and gently press against the back of the chalkboard.
Now your chalkboard should stand.
I have to say, I’m so happy with how our Craft Stick Chalkboard Easel Craft turned out! If you’re looking for more, be sure to check out all of our back to school ideas at Our Kid Things!
