We’ve made a few different kinds of playdough in the past. There’s playdough made from Kool-Aid, glitter playdough for St. Patrick’s Day, lemon playdough. We’ve also made Glitter Moon Sand, which is kind of like playdough’s cousin. And now we’re making popsicles! Creamsicle Playdough Play Pops, that is.
Please, do not actually try to eat these Creamsicle Playdough Play Pops. I’m sure you could, there’s nothing harmful here. But I doubt they’d taste very good. These pretend pops are just for summer fun!
Start with your basic mix of water, oil, flour, salt, and cream of tartar. Then to make it look and smell like an orange Creamsicle, add in orange food coloring along with 8-10 drops of sweet orange essential oil. Then, form your Creamsicle Playdough onto popsicle sticks for a fun summer activity!
Creamsicle Playdough Play Pops
- 2 cups water
- 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
- 3-4 drops orange food coloring
- 8-10 drops sweet orange essential oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup salt
- 2 Tablespoons cream of tartar
First, add the water, oil, orange food color and sweet oil essential oil to a large saucepan or Dutch oven. Whisk to combine. Add the flour, salt and cream of tartar and whisk well until all of the ingredients are wet and the flour lumps have disappeared.
Stir continuously over medium heat until a stiff ball of dough forms and you can no longer stir the dough easily. (This usually takes 3-4 minutes of stirring).
Immediately remove from heat and place the warm playdough on your counter or a level workspace area. Knead for several minutes until soft and smooth. Enjoy the energizing sweet orange and vanilla scents!
This soft and smooth creamsicle-scented playdough can be formed into popsicle shapes and attached to popsicle sticks for hours of playtime fun! Be sure to find more fun summer ideas at Our Kid Things!
