Cupcake Liner Seahorse Craft

We had a lot of fun with this Cupcake Liner Seahorse Craft. It’s so easy to do, with cut cupcake liners glued to a jumbo craft stick. So pretty, too, with a belly full of sequins! It’s a craft that can be completed in 5 minutes, no joke, for more time playing and imagining their ocean friends!

We actually made a couple seahorse crafts the other day. This was a last minute idea after our main idea that I will probably share at a later time, because it did turn out really beautifully. But the thing is, these were so quick and easy that they became our go-to. We couldn’t stop making them in different colors!

Does anyone else reuse spice containers for their small craft supplies like sequins and brass fasteners? I’m not much of a cook, but I get excited when finishing off a spice just so I can reuse the jar. Anyway, for our Cupcake Liner Seahorse Craft you will need cupcake liners in a variety of colors, jumbo craft sticks, blue paint, small googly eyes, sequins, a glue stick, and scissors.

Supplies needed:

  • Cupcake liners
  • Jumbo craft sticks
  • Blue acrylic paint
  • Googly eyes, small
  • Sequins
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors

Begin by painting a jumbo craft stick blue.

You really only need to paint about the bottom ⅓, but of course can paint the entire thing if you want. This is to signify the ocean that the seahorse is swimming in, and to add a bit more color. The craft sticks are great for pretending the seahorses are swimming.

Now take a colorful cupcake liner. The full size kind. Cut it in half.

Put one half aside. Cut the other half in half again.

Cut a curly tail from one of the pieces. You can just follow the shape of the cupcake liner if nothing else. The other piece will be used for the seahorse’s head. Also, with a small scrap piece of the cupcake liner, cut a small jagged edge. This will be glued to the top back of the full half.

Then glue the full half cupcake liner to the craft stick, with the blue on bottom poking out from the tail. Before the glue sets, slip the tail underneath the bottom of the cupcake liner.

And position the head on top.

Add a googly eye.

Then glue glue sequins on the belly of the pretty, shiny seahorse. And add the spiky piece to the back if you haven’t already.

So pretty and so easy, you can really make a whole family of colorful, sparkly seahorses in very little time.
