If you have a child in school, then I’m sure you know about the Box Tops program. Just by buying everyday products that we normally use anyway, those participating in the Box Tops program also help our schools and classrooms with much needed extra cash. From supplies the school may not be able to afford otherwise to computers, books, and playground equipment, every Box Tops collected adds up.

With 3 kids in school, we’ve been familiar with the Box Tops program for awhile now. It’s such an easy way to give back for all they do for us. My kids have even made finding and collecting the most cutouts into a game. This is made even easier with double Box Tops on select Kleenex®, Scott®, and Viva® Vantage® products at Walmart!

Not only are these products necessities in our home, but they are also perfect for stocking up and sharing with returning students and teachers. We picked up a pack each of Kleenex® Trusted Care* 3 Bundle Pack and Kleenex® Trusted Care* 4 Bundle Pack, which come in fun designs and the kids will need for back to school anyway. Then for home, we grabbed Scott® Tissue 20 Roll Pack as well as Viva® Vantage® 6 Big Rolls. All of these products are available with double Box Tops! Score!

Have you started your back to school shopping yet? Of course, there’s still time. Just be sure you look for Box Tops along the way, too! Because getting ready for school doesn’t mean just in the classroom, but we need to prepare at home, too.

One fun way that we can prepare is with our DIY Cardboard Roll Pencil Pouch! We love crafting with empty cardboard rolls, and with Scott® Tissue 20 Roll Pack as well as the Viva® Vantage® 6 Big Rolls there will be plenty of rolls to use!

For our DIY Cardboard Roll Pencil Pouch, you will need a clean paper towel roll, which is just right for full size pencils. You will also need scissors, a stapler, and tape in the patterns and colors of your choice. There’s a variety of styles available. You can also decorate your pouch with stickers, if you’d like. We used a touch of strong glue on the ends, as well, to make sure it all stayed wrapped securely.

You can also make a Box Tops Pouch using the same concept, but with a clean toilet paper roll instead.

Supplies needed:

  • clean paper towel roll
  • stapler
  • tape in assorted patterns and colors
  • hot glue or stronger
  • scissors

Start by wrapping a paper towel cardboard roll with the tape of your choice.

Once wrapped, cut a slit down the length of the roll. We also trimmed a bit from the opening so it wouldn’t curl quite so much.

Staple the ends of the cardboard roll and wrap with more tape so there are no pointy parts. Apply a drop of glue to secure ends. Insert pencils and you have a fun, customized way to keep your No. 2’s safe at home or in a backpack! For the Box Tops Pouch, simply follow the same directions, but use a toilet paper roll instead. You could even affix a magnet on one side to hang on the fridge for an easy Box Tops collection center!
