My kids have been back to school for only a week and I already feel like our schedules are disorganized. For example, there was a meet your child’s teacher night last Wednesday and of course we forgot all about. It just started and this is simply another sign that our daily routines will only escalate and quickly get out of hand.
Not only do we need a way of recording things like Teacher Conferences and doctor appointments, but my kids should also have a system to keep track of important test dates, class schedules, and soccer practice times. I also need a reminder to pick up and pack items in bags like snacks and Jedi’s diabetic supplies. I need an assistant, to be honest with you.
I know we could be much more productive if we knew what was happening and when. This would not only help my own 3 students, but also their teachers, too, since everyone can then come to class, or sports practice, more prepared. And I won’t accidentally schedule a doctor’s appointment on a day when there’s a big test.
This DIY Wall Glass Calendar, hung by the front door where it’s easily able to add to or wipe off, has become like Grand Central Station of our family. Made using a mix of Sharpie Markers and Expo Neon Window Markers found at Office Depot, it’s the perfect solution to keeping everyone organized. I attached a small sticky notepad and a PaperMate pen for those quick note reminders I need, as well.

DIY Color Strips Glass Wall Calendar
Items needed:
- Picture Frame (I used an 11×14)
- Poster board
- 7 Color strips
- Sharpie Markers – fine tip
- Expo Neon Window Markers – variety of colors
- PaperMate Pen
- Sticky notepad
- Fasteners
- Glue
- Scissors
Measure and cut your poster board to the size of your frame. Position color strips across poster board, leaving more room on top than bottom for the month, and glue into place. The 11×14 frame I used was just big enough for 7 color strips without any room to spare.
Label days of the week on very top color of color strips with your fine tip Sharpie.
Place sheet of poster board into frame and close. Cut fasteners for each of the markers into small strips. Attach 1 strip to the side of the frame and 1 onto your marker. Also attach 1 fastener to top of frame and 1 on your PaperMate pen.
Write in the month and dates on your calendar with the Expo Neon Window Markers. Stick your sticky pad somewhere out of the way on your calendar.
Hang and begin scheduling! When it’s time for a new month, simply wipe off and start over. Tip: I’ve been using a different color window marker for each kid’s activities as well as a separate color for family events.
That is a very cute idea. I love using paint stripes for crafts.
What a fabulous idea! Love the ombre look!
This is such a great idea. Definitely something we can use at our house!
What a great idea! I love the idea of using paint chips for something like this. Very creative.
