It’s Spring! What’s that? You say you still have snow on the ground? Well we can at least start to get excited, anyway, because the temperatures are bound to warm up sooner or later. Hopefully sooner. We’re starting by bringing the freshness of spring indoors with our very own Painted DIY Drink Carton Herb Gardens and a taste of the tropical with Tampico Tropical Punch!
Spring is all about new life, bright colors, and fresh flavors. Which is why it’s an ideal season for Tampico. Since 1989, Tampico Beverages, Inc. has been one of the world’s leading manufacturers and marketers high quality, yet affordable, family-favorite juice drinks. And like spring, where everything old is new again, Tampico is eager to spring into fun with their exciting brand refresh. Tampico has a new logo, packaging, and imaginatively curious brand platform.
Big, bright, bold, and delicious! Tampico is a favorite around here. The Tampico Tropical Punch flavor is packed with a blend of cherry, orange and pineapple flavors, which is like spring sunshine in a glass. With a pretty color, too. My kids can’t get enough! It was the perfect colorful inspiration and refreshing beverage to accompany our herb planter project.
While we’re still waiting for the warm weather to catch up outside, we can get planting inside by painting our own DIY Paper Carton Herb Gardens.
I’ve always wanted a windowsill herb garden. I’m not sure why I never put one together until now, except it seems I was perhaps waiting for the perfect gardening partner. My daughter is the first one to get her hands dirty, whether painting or planting seeds. Which came in handy for this project.
For our Painted DIY Drink Carton Herb Gardens, you first need a few paper drink cartons. I found the 1 quart paper drink cartons work best. You’ll also need a craft knife, which is a part of the project only an adult should do. Paints, potting soil, and plant seeds will finish the carton. You can also make simple garden markers with craft sticks and a permanent marker so you know what you planted where. Then finish by giving your herb seedlings a drink of water. While giving yourself a drink of Tampico, too.

Supplies needed:
- Paper drink cartons
- Craft knife
- Acrylic paint, assorted colors
- Potting soil
- Seeds
- Craft sticks
- Black fine-tip marker
With a clean and dry drink carton, carefully cut away one side.
Begin painting the carton in your choice of base colors. Let dry and repeat until covered. Then, continue to add more colors to your design. Once set, let dry completely.
Fill with potting soil.
With craft sticks and a black fine-tip marker, write each of your seeds. This is a great way for kids to learn about their herbs. Stick in the dirt where they will go, 3 to a carton.
Then, make a hole with your finger and add seeds. Cover with dirt.
Keep by a window and watch your seedlings grow! Once grown, the basil would be a great garnish in a glass of Tampico. Be sure to find more fun Spring ideas at Our Kid Things!
