DIY Soda Tab Gemstone Necklace
We collect an unbelievable amount of aluminum cans. After eyeing the pop tab on those cans, I knew we could get creative! All you need is some paint and shiny, colorful gems to make beautiful pendants for this DIY Soda Tab Gemstone Necklace Craft.
This would be such a great, inexpensive craft for girls’ sleepovers, along with any girl or princess-themed birthday parties! Everyone could make their own in their choice of colors!
My daughter loves hers! And with Earth Day right around the corner, this is another fun way to incorporate recycle and reuse since it uses parts of aluminum cans. What do you do after you pop the tab off the can? Throw the can in the recycling bin, of course!
DIY Soda Tab Gemstone Necklace
Supplies needed:
- soda tabs
- acrylic paint in your choice of color
- medium-large pack of gems
- clear glitter nail polish
- ball chain necklace
- glue
Once you’ve popped the tabs off your cans – try to get them in tact, because not only is that supposed to be lucky but there are also no sharp edges – begin painting them in your choice of color(s). We chose yellow, because it was a nice, bright color that went with all of our gems.
Once painted, hang to dry. We rigged a toothpick in between two objects so the tabs weren’t touching anything else. You’ll probably need a couple coats of paint and your fingers will get a bit messy while painting. That’s what makes it fun!
When the paint is dry, apply a coat of clear glitter nail polish to both set the paint and to add a bit of sparkle to the tabs.
Glue your gems on the bottom section. Once the glue is dry, slide onto your ball chain necklace.
