The main idea of summer is to be outside as much as possible, taking in some beautiful sun. Whether that means splashing in our pool, taking walks, outdoor parties, going to the park or just relaxing in our backyard. Being outside in the heat, however, means we need a way to cool off, like a cold glass of Dr Pepper.

Backyard Bash at Walmart #BackyardBash #shop

Noticing I was all out of soda, I made a trip to Walmart to pick some up. While there, I also added some supplies to make Dr Pepper cupcakes with a Dr Pepper chocolate frosting drizzle. Because of course I’m thinking about chocolate. Oh yum!

This also was the perfect time to put together a small backyard bash! With some Cheez-Its and a cooler from Coleman also bought at Walmart to keep our Dr Pepper ice cold, we were ready for some fun outside. This was also a great excuse to get some ideas ready for my daughter’s birthday coming up on the 24th.

With any #BackyardBash, you’re going to need some games. Of course, we have the kids splashing in the pool, but they can’t stay in there all day long. So when it’s time to come out, I set up a bowling lane with empty Dr Pepper cans. I put a little bit of water in the bottom of each can so they sit better, plus it’s fun watching the water splash out when the cans are hit. The kids had a blast!

And of course we enjoyed some Dr Pepper when we needed to cool off.

Then, it was time to come inside and have cupcakes! These are really easy to make with a box chocolate cake mix. I then added in butter, oil, and Dr Pepper. The frosting is just a regular vanilla frosting, but I made it special with a Dr Pepper chocolate frosting drizzle across the tops. Simply mix Dr Pepper and chocolate frosting until well combined.
