Egg Carton Horton Hears a Who Craft
What’s your favorite Dr. Seuss book? There are so many classics to choose from. In honor of Dr. Seuss Day on March 2nd, or National Read Across America Day, we’re so excited to share our Egg Carton Horton Hears a Who Craft!
Our very first Dr. Seuss craft was our Cat in the Hat Pencil Toppers, and it’s still a favorite. If you’re looking for more Dr. Seuss crafts be sure to check out this Cat in the Hat Paper Bag Puppet, our Fox in Socks Handprint Craft, and some really easy Cardboard Roll Truffula Trees.
This Egg Carton Horton Hears a Who Craft is amazingly simple. There’s no paint or coloring involved, we simply cut a paper egg carton into an elephant shape, attached a pair of small googly eyes, and rolled a toothpick and pom flower in Horton’s trunk. Voila! The sweetest craft for Dr. Seuss Day!
Egg Carton Horton Hears a Who Craft
Supplies needed:
- Paper egg carton
- Small googly eyes
- Toothpicks
- Small poms
- Scissors
- Glue
- Clear tape
Begin by cutting apart the egg carton sections.
A few of the connecting sections should be longer than the rest. Be sure to leave one of these sections long for the trunk. Trim the rest.
On both sides of the trunk, make a cut as far up as you can. Then make a small snip over. Fold the flaps up carefully for ears.
Roll up the trunk. Adhere small googly eyes.
Next, get ready to make the pom flower by gathering a toothpick and small pom. Apply a dob of glue on the end of the toothpick and have an adult carefully insert into the pom. If it pokes through, snip off the pointy tip. Have an adult carefully cut the other end of the toothpick, as well.
At this point, unroll the trunk and adhere the pom flower inside the trunk with a strip of clear tape.
Don’t worry if the tape is longer than the trunk. You can use the extra to secure the trunk in a roll up position. We used another toothpick to position and press the tape where needed.
