When the weather gets warm and the sun starts to shine through the rain, it’s time to get outside! Summer is just around the corner and with it come so many possible ways to play and get dirty. And while I have yet to see any lightning bugs just yet, I know they’ll be around soon enough. Until then, we made our own Egg Carton Lightning Bugs Craft!
Getting dirty outside and having summer fun, though, you’re going to need an easy way to clean off messy hands. That’s why I like to keep Wet Ones® Hand Wipes around. As America’s #1 Hand Wipe, based on scan data for 52 weeks ending 1/28/17, Wet Ones® Hand Wipes makes me feel like a good mom. I can let my kids play and explore, without worrying about clean up after. I can be more in the moment knowing their hands can easily be wiped clean, and they don’t have to stop what they’re doing to run to the soap and water.
Available at many retailers nationwide, we bought both a Wet Ones® Hand Wipes canister to keep around the house, as well as the Wet Ones® Hand Wipes singles for even quicker on-the-go messes. Tough on dirt and germs, but gentle on skin, the antibacterial wipes kill 99.99% of germs. The moisturizing aloe inside each wipe makes them easy on skin for even the littlest of hands, with a convenient 2-in-1 way to wipe out dirt and messes when water isn’t readily available.
They’re great for wiping whatever messes my kids get into outside. And we’re sure to get into many of them this summer! They’re also convenient to clean up hands after creating some fun summer crafts. Like our Egg Carton Lightning Bugs.
Perfect for catching and flying about outside, and easier to catch than the real thing, too.
For our Egg Carton Lightning Bugs, you’ll need a paper egg carton, along with black and bright or neon yellow paint. Add some googly eyes, pipe cleaners for legs, a hole punch for those legs, as well as some black wings out of black cardstock and you have a lightning bug ready to light up the sky!
So get outside and play!
Egg Carton Lightning Bugs
- Paper egg carton
- Black and bright yellow paint
- Small googly eyes
- Black pipe cleaners
- Black cardstock
- Small hole punch
First, cut 2 egg sections from the egg carton. Paint 3/4 of it a bright yellow color, leaving just the head to be painted black. Let dry.
Using the rim of a cup or glass, trace a circle on the black cardstock. Cut out and then cut in half. Glue along the edge of the part that’s painted black, so the wings are over with tips slightly overlapped.
Poke 2 holes on either side for legs. Cut a pipe cleaner in thirds and insert into holes.
Glue on googly eyes.
Fly around and have fun outside! Get messy, but keep Wet Ones® Hand Wipes nearby! Be sure to check out more of our summer craft and recipe ideas at Our Kid Things!
