My little girl, who just turned 5 yesterday(!), starts kindergarten next month. I’m excited for her, and to get a break myself if I’m being honest, but I’m also a little nervous. I know she’ll do great, but there are so many variables that come with sending your baby off to school for that first day. Not the least of which is a worry over how much there will be for her to learn this coming school year.
Luckily, I was introduced to PowerMyLearning. This free website has all of the best learning games located in one central location, making it easy to find what will work for her age range and skill level.
This site isn’t just for little kids, however. There are actually games on PowerMyLearning for grades all the way through high school. I’ve bookmarked it on our main computer so that all my kids can go through in the weeks before school starts back up again. Did you know that children who don’t engage in educational activities over the summer stand to lose an average of 2.6 months of academic growth? PowerMyLearning is a fantastic tool to use to fight that summer learning loss!
As for Abby, though, she especially loved that she could easily find a bunch of Curious George math games, along with many other familiar characters and fun games. We were adding and subtracting, as well as sorting shapes and colors with Clifford the Big Red Dog. Then, long after I left I heard her in her room counting along with George, where she was using the site on her tablet.
It’s amazing how fast kids catch on. As such, I know if she continues to use PowerMyLearning, I’ll have one less thing to worry about. She’ll be above and beyond where she needs to be on that first day. Hopefully, I’ll be just as ready. Because as much as I’ve been talking about how great it will be to have the day to myself, I’m sure it’s also going to be hard for me, too.
