Five Of The Most Important Clothing Items For Your New Baby

After months of being pregnant, finally being able to bring your baby home is a fantastic feeling. You’ve likely done a lot of preparations so far as baby-related equipment goes, and plenty of people will have no doubt bought cute little clothes for the new arrival.

Clothing is, naturally, one of the most important elements to consider, so it’s key to check beforehand that you have everything you need. In this article, you’ll learn about five of the most important items!

1. Swaddles

A swaddle is one item of clothing you don’t want to skip out on. Babies love being swaddled – it makes them feel comfortable and safe wherever they are, which is particularly important in the very early months (swaddling is said to mimic the natural environment of the womb).

They also prevent the baby from scratching themselves as they sleep, which is a very common occurrence.

2. Hats

It can be difficult for babies to regulate their temperature, and it’s easy to think so much about their torsos, arms, and legs that you forget about their heads! You don’t have to go for anything super fancy – a little cotton beanie is a great option.

If you live in a hot country, though, be careful not to have their temperature rise too much; hats are most important for babies who live in colder climates or are born in winter.

3. Mittens

It was touched on briefly above, but babies very easily scratch themselves, either during their sleep or just when they’re having fun and flailing around.

For this reason, it’s a good idea to keep a couple of pairs of mittens handy. You won’t want to put them on all the time so as not to be too restrictive – they’re best for bedtime (or during a tantrum!).

4. Onesies

Onesies are another staple you’ll want to stock up on. Otherwise known as bodysuits or all-in-ones, this is what your baby will wear over the top of their nappy to form a base layer. Make sure you pick ones that are made of breathable materials like cotton so that your baby doesn’t overheat (you can always add layers if they’re cold, but you want the base layer to be nice and cool).

5. Kimono Tops

Based on the traditional Japanese garment, Kimono tops are a great item of clothing to have in your baby’s wardrobe.

The benefit is that rather than having to put their neck through a hole, they attach via a double fold, keeping your baby’s body nice and airy (as well as being unrestrictive). It’s less of a hassle getting them changed with kimono tops, because they fasten simply with one or two buttons (not to mention that these are one of the cutest types of baby outfits available!).

Wrapping Up

Preparing for a new baby is always going to be exciting, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t stressful. It can be a challenge to make sure you’ve got everything you need, but get the clothing done and dusted, and you’re a big part of the way there!
