Fox in Socks Handprint Craft
Dr. Seuss Day is coming up soon! You don’t have to tell us twice, his books are a favorite around here. In fact, we made Cat in the Hat Pencil Toppers in the past that are still a big hit. We’ve also made an easy way to craft Cardboard Roll Truffalo Trees. Now, though, we’ve been inspired to share a Fox in Socks Handprint Craft!
Handprint crafts are great, because not only is it a chance to get messy, but it also makes such a wonderful keepsake. Their hands are only going to be that little for a short period of time.
And our Fox in Socks Handprint Craft is a wonderful chance to remember a favorite book at this age, too, by a favorite author that continues to inspire generations. I know all of my kids have grown up with him.
To get our Fox in Socks Handprint Craft started, paint your child’s hand in the colors of either Fox or Knox. Add a few fingerprints of white for eyes and make their faces with markers the best you can. It’s an art exercise, fun craft, keepsake, and great excuse to read all day!
Fox in Socks Handprint Craft
Supplies needed:
- acrylic paint in red, orange, blue, yellow, pink, white, and black
- paintbrush
- canvas
- pencil
- black permanent marker
To make Fox
Paint the tips of your child’s fingers blue and the rest of their hand orange. Gently press your child’s hand onto the canvas. Help them pull up in one swift motion to avoid smearing the paint.
Turn the canvas around. Paint your child’s entire hand orange. Gently press your child’s hand onto the canvas. Help them pull up in one swift motion to avoid smearing the paint. (make sure this handprint is going down on the canvas the opposite direction of the first handprint)
Dip your child’s fingertip into black paint and add a nose onto Fox and into white paint to add 2 eyes. (refer to the photo)
Allow the paint to dry completely.
Use a pencil to draw a face onto Fox. Once you are satisfied, trace the face details with permanent marker. Once the marker is dry, use an eraser to remove any pencil lines left behind.
To make Knox
Paint your child’s entire hand bright yellow. Gently press your child’s hand onto the canvas. Help them pull up in one swift motion to avoid smearing the paint.
Turn the canvas around. Paint the bottom of your child’s hand with pink paint and the palm of their hand with pale yellow paint. Only paint your child’s pinky and index finger.
Gently press your child’s hand onto the canvas. Help them pull up in one swift motion to avoid smearing the paint. (make sure this handprint is going down on the canvas the opposite direction of the first handprint). Dip your child’s fingertips into white paint and add 2 eyes. Allow the paint to dry completely.
Then, use a pencil to draw a face onto Knox. Once you are satisfied, trace the face details with permanent marker. Once the marker is dry, use an eraser to remove any pencil lines left behind.
