Handprint Elf Paper Plate Craft
If there’s anything more adorable than Christmas elves, it’s our Paper Plate Handprint Christmas Elf Craft, which uses handprints for the collar. Elves and handprints! Almost as good as Santa at Christmas time. Because there’s really nothing better than that.

We’ve been watching a lot of the Santa Claus movies and Elf, too. Yes, already. So there’s been a lot of pointy ears and elf hats going around. It only makes sense that we want to get into all that fun, too. We’ve made a Free Printable Elf Template for all the pieces needed to make sure this craft is nothing but fun.

The addition of the handprint collar on our elves is just the finishing touch. The marshmallows on the hot chocolate, if you will. Or the syrup on the spaghetti. That’s for all the Buddy the Elf fans, of which we count ourselves, too.
Christmas Handprint Elf Paper Plate Craft
For our Christmas elf craft, you will first want to print our elf template.

Then, you’ll need paper plates, tan acrylic paint, cardstock in tan, pink, red, along with the colors of your choice, medium sized googly eyes, a ⅝” circle paper punch, black sharpie, scissors, and a glue stick.
Christmas Elf Craft Supplies Needed
- Elf Template
- Paper plates
- Tan acrylic paint
- Cardstock – tan, pink, red, colors of choice
- ⅝” circle paper punch
- Googly eyes, medium
- Black sharpie
- Scissors
- Glue stick
Handprint Elf Craft Step by Step Directions
Begin by painting a paper plate with tan acrylic paint.

If you’re like us and you’re without tan paint, mix brown and white until you get the color you’re after. Let the paint dry completely.

While the paint is drying, print the elf template and cut out the pieces. Trace the ears on tan cardstock and cut out. Choose the color you’d like for the hat. Then trace and cut out. Lastly, pick the color you’d like for the hair. Trace and cut out that shape, too.

You will also need to cut a strip from a different color of cardstock for the hat trim. We made triangles along the long width of the cardstock.

Trace and cut out two handprints from the same color cardstock as the hat trim.

Now, glue the hat trim to the hat.

Cut away any excess from the edges.

Glue the hair to the bottom of the hat.

Then, when the paper plate is completely dry, glue the hat to the paper plate.

Glue ears to the sides, directly under the hat.

Use a ⅝” circle paper punch to make two pink circles and one red.

Add googly eyes. Glue the red circle in place for a nose.

Glue the two pink circles in place for cheeks. Then, use a black sharpie to draw a simple mouth.

Finally, glue the two handprints together so the hands are spread apart as much as possible.

Then, glue the handprints to the bottom of the elf to finish off this super cute Christmas kids craft that’s almost as sweet as pancake syrup.
