Read Across America Day is quickly approaching on March 2nd. Which is also Dr. Seuss’s birthday. So it only makes sense to grab your favorite Dr. Seuss book, like Red Fish Blue Fish, and make our Handprint Red Fish Blue Fish Craft to go with it!
Not only are our handprint red fish blue fish an easy and darling craft on its own, but it uses little one’s handprints, for an extra sweet touch. It’s amazing just how cute handprint fish are. Even better, making this craft is the perfect excuse to get together and spend some time reading a good book.
Red Fish Blue Fish Handprint Craft
To make our Red Fish Blue Fish Handprint Craft you will need a paper plate, blue acrylic paint, cardstock in red, blue, green, and yellow, small googly eyes, a white marker, scissors, and glue.
Dr Seuss Red Fish Blue Fish Craft Step by Step Directions
Begin by gathering a paper plate and blue paint. We chose a light blue color to make sure our blue fish popped.
Paint the paper plate. Let the paint dry completely.
While the paint is drying, trace your little one’s handprint. You will need one handprint each of red, blue, and yellow. Two handprints are needed of the green cardstock.
Cut out all the handprints.
Turn your handprints into fish by adding googly eyes. Then, use the white paint pen or marker to draw a small circle mouth below the eye. Also draw some wavy fin-like details along the side of the fish.
Repeat this step for all the fish.
Finally, when the paint is completely dry, cut the top off the paper plate.
We didn’t glue our fish in the bowl so that they could each have their time in and out as we’re reading the book.
