Handprint Rocket Craft

Blast off with this super cool Handprint Rocket Craft! Not only does this make an out of this world every day craft, but you could definitely turn it into a holiday keepsake, Grandparents’ Day or Father’s Day for example, since it uses both an adult handprint and child’s.

Handprint Rocket Craft

You will need 3 total handprints for this craft. Preferably 2 larger handprints and a smaller child’s handprint. You could, of course, make it completely with only a child’s handprint, too. The rest of the pieces for the rocket are included on our Free Printable Rocket Template.

To make our handprint rocket you will first need our rocket template. You will also need cardstock in the colors of your choice, markers in assorted colors, scissors, and a glue stick. Plus, a pencil to trace all the pieces.

Handprints Rocket Craft Supplies Needed

  • Rocket Template
  • Cardstock – orange, yellow, assorted colors
  • Markers – assorted color
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick

Rocket Handprint Craft Step by Step Directions

Begin by printing the rocket template and cut out the pieces.

Rocket template pieces.

Now, select different fun and bright colored sheets of cardstock for the rocket. Trace the rocket patterns on the cardstock and cut them out. 

Trace handprints.

Next, the parent/adult will trace their handprint on yellow cardstock. The child traces their handprint on orange cardstock. Cut out both handprints.

Cut out a closed handprint, too.

Also trace and cut out a handprint with the fingers closed together in white or silver for the main rocket shape.

Color in the top of the 3 middle fingers on rocket handprint.

Use markers to color in the top of the 3 middle fingertips of the handprint.

Glue circles on rocket.

The next step is to glue the circle cutouts on the rocket base.

Glue strip near bottom of rocket.

Attach the strip cutout near the bottom part of the rocket base.

Glue small handprint to big handprint.

Then, glue the small handprint on the big handprint.

Glue triangles to side of rocket.

Glue the triangle cutouts on both sides of the rocket base.

Glue handprint to bottom of rocket.

Attach the handprints to the bottom side of the rocket pattern.

Trace outline of rocket with marker and add detail.

Finally, use another marker to trace outlines along the rocket base, as well as any other details you would like.

An out of this world rocket craft made using two big adult handprints and a child's handprint.

Materials

  • Rocket Template
  • Cardstock - orange, yellow, assorted colors

Instructions

  1. Begin by printing the rocket template and cut out the pieces.
  2. Now, select different fun and bright colored sheets of cardstock for the rocket. Trace the rocket patterns on the cardstock and cut them out. 
  3. Next, the parent/adult will trace their handprint on yellow cardstock. The child traces their handprint on orange cardstock.
  4. Cut out both handprints.
  5. Also trace and cut out a handprint with the fingers closed together in white or silver for the main rocket shape.
  6. Use markers to color in the top of the 3 middle fingertips of the handprint.
  7. The next step is to glue the circle cutouts on the rocket base.
  8. Attach the strip cutout near the bottom part of the rocket base.
  9. Then, glue the small handprint on the big handprint.
  10. Glue the triangle cutouts on both sides of the rocket base.
  11. Attach the handprints to the bottom side of the rocket pattern.
  12. Finally, use another marker to trace outlines along the rocket base, as well as any other details you would like.

Notes

While this craft uses adult handprints with a child's, you could also just the child's handprints for all the pieces. The pieces from the template may just need to be trimmed to fit.
