Everything changes when you have kids, that really is true. Even in areas that you never would have considered, like your purse. Before I had kids, I didn’t have a purse. I’d call it a bag, as if I’m too good for a purse. No, now I have a purse. And it’s a mom purse at that. If you have kids, you most likely have a mom purse, too. It’s when their stuff overtakes yours to the point that you can’t find anything.
But I have a secret. It’s an easy way to organize that mom purse once again.
Zipper pouches.
I know, right? A lifesaver! Just like the kind your kid would use to store their school pencils. These pouches are so simple and make it so easy to keep your purse essentials organized. And when you don’t want it to be a mom purse, you can simply take out the pouch containing your kids’ things and voila. It’s just a purse!
I make sure to stock up on the mom side whenever I’m at Walmart, where it’s easy to pick up essentials that help keep me healthy in every part of life.
Those essentials include plenty of ChapStick Total Hydration. I’m a bit of a ChapStick addict, actually, but Chapstick Total Hydration is an advanced nourishing formula with argan oil and avocado butter and rose hip oils. There’s also an Advil Tablet Vial for all those aches and pains. Nothing’s stronger, longer lasting or better on your tough aches and pains than Advil, and nothing works on more pains than Advil (among OTC pain relievers). The vial size also makes it even easier to take along. And, because I always remember to take my multi-vitamin at weird times, I keep a bottle of Centrum VitaMints. These Centrum VitaMints are an adult multivitamin with a refreshingly minty taste that you can take any time of day with or without food or water.
Beyond that, however, I always make sure to have a hair tie and barrette, a packet of tissue, and a small tube of perfume on hand.
The kid side includes, but is not limited to, a box of crayons, a notepad, and a pencil. These are the only necessary items that must always be zipped inside. Other than that, we’ve been known to keep stickers, small toys, and a hairbrush among many other things.
Keep it all in the pouches, zip them up, and put them in your purse. It’s like a mom purse filing cabinet. Though if you’re anything like me, you might also need another pouch for all the useless store receipts that wind up stuffed in every pocket of your purse.
And when your kids say they’re bored in the backseat, all you have to do is hand them their pouch. When the car is stopped, of course. An organized purse and a mom win in one!
Now you know how I keep my purse organized with all of our essentials. What are your purse essentials?
Or we could call it the Dad’s manbag…
Either way, it’s a better idea than what we currently have in our family minivan with things pretty much tucked away across several compartments…
These are all great things to keep in my purse! I especially need to look into the Vitamints! That sounds like an easy way to take my vitamins each day.
It is so nice to have everything you need in certain pouches. That way when kids need something you can grab it right away.
I definitely have a mom purse! And it seems like it is always a mess. I have a stash of crayons and hair stuff and a few toiletries. I like the idea of a separate zipper pouch that I can just hand the kiddos with everything all together. Much better than the bottom of my purse!

Brilliant! I have a pouch for my essentials (I always need to have Advil and ChapStick on hand), but never thought to create one for the kids! {client}
Now that’s a great idea. My purse looks like a medicine cabinet threw up in it. Everything is thrown int here.
Wonderful idea for those bags that don’t have compartments. Its so easy to keep things together and not jumbled up.
I also use pouches to organize my purse…well still a diaper bag most of the time. I love that you have a pouch for the kids too!
