It’s hard to believe, but my kids go back to school in 3 weeks. This next Monday, I have to get them registered. That seems crazy to me, summer seems to have gone by so fast this year. Now, it’s time to start thinking about school again. With 3 hungry kids, though, you can’t think about school without thinking about after school snacks.

My kids always seemed famished when they came off the bus after a day at school. In fact, their very first words to me were never hi, mom. Glad to see you, mom. I miss you, mom. I’ve had such a great day, mom. No, their very first words were always, “What do we have to eat?”.

Knowing this question is bound to come up again (and again, and again), I’ve vowed to be on top of some great kid’s snacks this year. Thus, during a grocery run to Walmart I picked up a couple boxes of plain cheese Bagel Bites as well as Delimex Chicken & Cheese Taquitos. The Bagel Bites are made with real cheese and homemade sauce with 0g trans fat, a perfect pick-me-up for after school. These are quick snacks that my kids can make on their own.

I had a great idea with the cheese Bagel Bites, so I also selected a few different toppings. That way, my kids can customize them to fit their own tastes, depending on their mood that day. Also, and more accurately, my kids rarely agree on anything let alone their toppings.

As such, I picked up pepperoni, sausage crumbles, and diced some ham which I’ll leave in plastic baggies for easy Bagel Bite creating. You can find more great Bagel Bite recipes here.

My kids ended up stacking their Bagel Bites high with a bit of every topping. They also like them as just plain cheese, too, though. And with extra cheese. The more cheese, the merrier!

I’ll still need to help them set the microwave, aside from Jedi, my 10 year old, who can do it on his own, but I love that with the Delimex and Bagel Bites we have a couple options for tasty, quick snacks that my kids can make on their for #AfterSchoolSnacks or anytime. The Delimex are easy to customize, too. While we like them just as they are, my guy came up with a way to make them his own. Warm the taquitos in the microwave or oven, then top with shredded cheese and a bit of salsa. Heat again until the cheese is melted. Yum!

Just to let you know, a thumbs up from Jedi is hard to come by. But in Jedi’s exact words, “These are so good! We can definitely make these again. I’m in food heaven! We can make these again tomorrow, right?” Oh yes, we can!

So now when they ask, “What do we have to eat?”, I might at least get a “Thank you, mom.”. With these Bagel Bite coupons and Delimex coupons, though, I’ll say “thank you!”, too.

  1. If I show this post to my son I know he will want to have those for after school. He loves finger foods like that, let’s not even begin to mention pizza.
