It is a lot of work to transform a kitchen, so I decided to share a recent project with you that I had a great experience and some savings due to my extensive research.
So let’s start, I took a look at my existing kitchen and decided to transform it into modern style kitchen but before I began, budget was an important factor for this transformation as my limitation was at 1000 dollars. Well, after brain storming on few ideas, which I developed after visiting few model homes and also through online research, I started to reach out to renovation contractors to get my ideas into action and complete the project. Well for the most part, I think this was a difficult part of my journey, as there were many contractors out there but who is good and who is bad?, it was very difficult to determine, well after a long process I was able to find a good kitchen contractor to start with my project.
Once I had the kitchen contractor selected for the project, it was time to get the materials that I needed to complete the project. Based on my design “idea†and “budget†I was not able to accommodate new kitchen cabinets, which would have been a great transformation; however, for this project, I left my existing cabinets as is. Further into the project, I took on a bit of work myself by preparing the walls in between the cabinets and the countertops. Since my existing walls in the kitchen required cleaning and some removal of electrical panels allowing the contractor to only focus on installation works, it ended up helping me save some money by self-performing the prep work.
While I carried out prep work, I was also in the process of purchasing the material that would make my idea into reality, I first visited few box stores, Home Depot and Lowes but I was not able to find what I was looking for, so I continued my search and visited The tile shop and did find few designs that I liked but that was not enough. My kitchen contractor informed me of Tile markets, so I decided to check it out and after much search on their website, I found few backsplash tiles that I really liked and I ended up choosing stacked stone backsplash (picture below), it looks like subway tile but it looks more modern and best of all its made with natural marble and the price is also great since I ended up saving few hundred dollars on my purchase. Now, I am not sponsored by them, but I felt like these guys were my friends as they helped me a lot with my purchase and selection. Anyways, I ordered samples to ensure what I saw online matched my expectations; I got the samples after 4 days through FedEx and with the samples, I was able to determine and be comfortable that the color and texture matched my design criteria.
Conclusively, after much effort, I am expected to complete my kitchen transformation project under budgeted amount and I am very delighted and satisfied with the final outcome since it meets my expectation and design idea. All of you who are reading this, I would like to express it to you that it is very important to do your research before you hire anyone to take on your project.
Good Luck everyone with your kitchen transformation project, and drop me a line if you would like to get some more advice.
