With 3 kids, two of them in school where sickness runs rampant, keeping us all healthy is a top priority. It’s also sometimes a losing battle. If one kid catches a cold, it’s just inevitable that it’s going to be passed around.
It’s even more important that we all stay healthy with Jedi having type 1 diabetes. Not only will he get sick, but his blood sugar will rise. It’s a double whammy.
Lysol, the same brand trusted for years, has introduced a new initiative centered on keeping families as healthy as possible, aptly titled Healthing. The main idea of Healthing is to share more steps and tips beyond just cleaning to keep families as healthy as possible. There is even a Healthing guidebook for you to look over.
For instance, did you know you need to wash your hands with soap and water, or a hand sanitizer, for at least 20 seconds? Hand washing is the single most important thing you can do to prevent illness, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
An essential way to integrate Healthing is to understand the difference between cleaning and disinfecting. You can clean a closet, but disinfecting kills the germs that can reside on commonly touched surfaces. In the process, this lowers the risk of spreading bacteria and viruses between family members.
Speaking of family members, another great tip is to get your kids involved! The younger children can do simpler, one-step tasks like dusting or picking toys up off the floor. Then save the more complex jobs, such as vacuuming, scrubbing, and disinfecting for older members of the family.
With Healthing, Lysol wants to share even more of these tips, along with additional resources to keep your family healthy. They have even teamed with television personality Giuliana Rancic to help spread the word about Healthing. Together, they will visit YMCAs in select markets across the country to demonstrate Healthing in action.
I know I’m going to implement these tips, and hopefully we’re through with our illnesses this year.
