My children and I love to watch movies together. It’s one of our favorite things to do as a family. Of course, going outside and running off some energy is ideal, but there are times when nothing is better than snuggling all huddled on the couch with your kids, watching the excitement of the screen in their eyes. And with help from sites like Music Magpie, which makes it easy to turn your old DVDs into cash, you can keep the family movie nights coming. Because it’s all about making memories with your kids, in whatever way that is.
Here are my top 5 favorite movie moments with my kids:
1.) Shrek 3: When Abby was still a baby, and Buzz was no more than 2, we braved the elements to take all the kids to the drive-in theatre. Shrek 3 was playing. And while I remember it being hectic in that car, and I was honestly glad when we got home, I also remember the gleam in Buzz’s eye looking at the drive-in screen in front of us. It was the first time I remember when he really got a movie.

2.) Cars: Jedi was obsessed with Cars when it was first released, and for about a year afterward. He couldn’t get enough of the movie or the figures that went with it. He had quite a collection. That phase finally passed, but I still look back on it fondly.
3.) Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked: A lot can be said for these movies, with the high-pitched voiced chipmunks and a bumbling Dave, but my kids love them. Especially Abby. This was a hit when I got it for them for Easter last year. And I actually don’t mind watching it with them. Well, at least the first few times.
4.) Star Wars: For the longest time Jedi, as you can tell from his name, was enthralled with all things Star Wars. It was like his obsession with Cars in a lot of ways, only possibly even more intense. And then when that stage finally passed for Jedi, Buzz took up a keen interest in all things Darth Vader. Because of them, I now know everything I could ever need to know, and then some, about Star Wars. It’s the set of movies that keeps on giving.
5.) Beauty and the Beast: My kids are more into Pixar animation than old school Disney, and while the older animation can be charming I can’t say I blame them. But Beauty and the Beast is the exception. Abby can sit and watch this all day long if I’d let her.
So go, make some memories with your kids. Whether outside, or if it’s just one of those days, while watching a movie.
