I am outnumbered in this house by little people, there’s no denying that. It’s a small house as it is, but they have their things everywhere. In every nook and corner there is a piece of a toy, and billowing out of baskets. Littered in the most unlikely places and hiding in the carpet on the floor, as my feet can attest.
But now that my kids are getting older, I don’t need my home to feel like a daycare or tornado of a toy store any longer. I’m attempting to take back some space of my own with a few small touches.
The first step is always organizing, which is helped by purging and donating what isn’t played with any longer. Then, the remaining toys need to have a dedicated place to go that isn’t right in the middle of the living room or bedroom, wherever you want your sanctuary to be.
After the toys are put away, I want my space to smell nice and not like an old diaper. I’ve found many great air fresheners and scented candles in scents I love. Most of my preferred fragrances breathe an air of sweet berries into the room, and I have to say it does a lot in making my area my own again.
Flaunt Your Style
I’ve recently been adding more pictures to the walls that I love, along with vases of flowers and small personal touches that I put out of reach long ago. These are things that I was afraid my kids would break before.
While my kids are a huge part of my life, and our house is going to reflect that, I also think it’s important to have a space of my own. We don’t need to be on top of each other every second anymore. Especially now that we’re all getting older.
