Monster Bookmarks

Are you a monster for a good book? Then you’re going to love these yarn tassel hair Monster Bookmarks!

These monster bookmarks are a really fun back to school addition. Stick them in a current book to mark the page, then be greeted with a friendly monster face just waiting for you to read again. Make your monsters with one eye, or two, or even three, all the best for taking in exciting stories.

To make our Monster Bookmarks you will need cardstock in a variety of colors, multi-color yarn, white paper, a black marker, a single hole punch, scissors, and a glue stick.

Make your own Monster Bookmarks

Supplies needed:

  • Cardstock – assorted colors
  • White paper
  • Multi-color yarn
  • Black marker
  • Single hole punch
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick

First, you’ll need to cut your bookmark base to size.

Our bookmarks were roughly 2 ¼” x 5”. Cut them out of whatever colored cardstock you’d like.

Punch a hole at the top center.

Now draw eyes and a mouth on white paper with the black marker. You’ll need the outlines to be rather thick and easy to cut out. You can also accent with a red marker for the inside of the mouth, too, or use more colors if you’d like.

Cut the eyes and mouth out, around the black outline.

Glue in place on the bookmark base.

Next, take 3 or 4 long strands of multi-color yarn. Fold the strands in half. Twist tightly in your fingers and maneuver through the hole. Once through the hole, make a loop with all the strands.

And bring the other ends of the yarn through the loop. Tighten the loop gently and carefully, so it doesn’t pull through the cardstock.
