When it comes to Mother’s Day, I know I especially appreciate gifts that are handmade from the heart. No matter what it is or what it looks likes, there’s nothing better than seeing the unique piece your little one made just for you, because you’re their mom and that’s a special thing. So gift a spoonful of love with these Mother’s Day Ink and Paint Doodle Wood Spoons. They make a wonderful present from a child to their mom. Or Grandma.
These plain wooden spoons came in a pack of 3 for $1. You can’t beat that! Since I also have 3 kids, then this was perfect because each could make their own. Then just gather some paints, brushes, an ultra fine-tipped marker, a paper towel, Mod Podge to seal it all up, and a ribbon to tie them all together.
Let your child make their design in however way you want on the handle of the spoon with your fine-tipped marker. Then paint over it in the color of your choice, quickly wiping away most of the paint with a paper towel. Form a small band of a correlating color around the top of the handle. We tried painting both with painter’s tape to make a cleaner line and without. Honestly, the tape didn’t make a lot of difference in our case.
Ink and Paint Doodle Mother’s Day Wood Spoons
- wood spoons
- acrylic paint in your choice of colors
- ultra fine-tipped black marker
- paper towel
- decorative ribbon
- Mod Podge
First, make a design on the handle of the spoon. However you or the child making it wants. Be creative! Let it sit for a minute so the ink has a time to set.
Paint over the design with the paint color of your choice. Quickly wipe away most of the paint with your paper towel. You should see the marker design more clearly.
Form a band around the top of the handle to transition from design to spoon. Let paint dry.
Once paint is dry, apply a layer of Mod Podge to each handle. Wrap spoons in decorative ribbon and gift a spoonful of love to the mom or grandmom in their life on Mother’s Day! You could gift these Spoonful of Love Mother’s Day Wood Spoons as is, as they’re perfectly usable and should be dishwasher safe with the Mod Podge. But you could also hot glue them around a framed picture of the kids or include in a pot of flowers!
