My Buzz is a smart, creative, caring boy who just so happened to turn 8 years old over the weekend. He’s in the 2nd grade, and following right along at grade level at everyone’s amazement. Because along with so many of his wonderful attributes, he’s also autistic.
When he first entered kindergarten, Buzz was barely verbal. He said enough to where he would get his point across to me, but not enough for conversations. Then his special ed teacher entered our lives. Through her tireless work and attentive attention to his specific needs, he’s now reading entire books at his grade, having normal conversations, writing sentences, and completing math problems. He may soon get to be integrated into a regular classroom. Something I never would have dreamed of just 2 years ago.
None of this would have been possible without his teachers. The right teacher can work miracles. Teachers change lives.
Teachers put up with so much during a day. Just with my Buzz alone, I know he can be a handful. All while doing innovative things in the classroom. But we can help them do more by donating. Teachers spend money every year out of their own pocket for supplies and items needed to work those miracles like my Buzz, especially in underfunded areas.
Office Depot and Adopt-A-Classroom have partnered to raise awareness about teachers, and all that they do in the lives of their students. Adopt-A-Classroom is a nonprofit organization that helps connect donors with teachers to enhance the learning environment for students. You can donate to the teacher highlighted in the video below, or a teacher in your local community through Teachers Change Lives. Simply Click on the teal “Donate to a Teacher” box on the Teachers Change Lives website, which will take you to the Adopt-A-Classroom website and follow the corresponding steps from there.
