A smile can light up a room. But for most of us, a simple smile is something we tend to take for granted.
While I was pregnant with my oldest son and still working in customer service, some 8 years ago, I met a man and his son. He was a cute little boy, curious and exuberant as they most often are. Only he was born with a cleft palate. Until then, I really had no first-hand knowledge of this condition. Luckily, that boy was able to have surgery to correct his deformity, leaving only a small scar in it’s place. But many children aren’t that fortunate.
That’s where Operation Smile comes in.
Operation Smile is a an international charity, providing safe reconstructive surgery to those born with facial deformities like cleft lip or palate when they would otherwise be unable to afford it. In fact, Operation Smile has performed over 200,000 free surgeries. Because of this, those children helped can go on to live a normal life, with a beautiful smile.
Fortunately, my own children were not born with these developments. But for those affected, Operation Smile is truly a life-changing organization that is spread worldwide, in over 60 countries. And thanks to the likes of Campus Book Rentals, a giving donor to this worthwhile charity, many children are finally able to light up a room with their smile.
This is a post for Campus Book Rentals. Opinions and words are my own.
