Today, we’re sharing a super sweet and easy handprint craft for summer. This Paper Plate Handprint Fish Craft goes together so quickly, and with the help of those darling handprints, it’s the cutest fish swimming in the ocean.

We made our fish blue, because it just seemed like a good fish kind of color, but your fish can be any color you want. You can also make the handprints in any color, or colors, you want, too. It’s your ocean, and these are your fish, with those super cute little handprints.

Handprint Fish Paper Plate Craft

To make our easy handprint fish craft you will need paper plates, acrylic paint and cardstock in your choice of colors, large googly eyes, a silver metallic marker, scissors, and a glue stick.

Craft supplies needed.

  • Paper plates
  • Acrylic paint – your choice of colors
  • Cardstock – your choice of colors
  • Googly eyes, large
  • Silver metallic marker
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick

Paper Plate Fish Craft Step by Step Directions

Begin by painting a paper plate in your choice of colors. We chose blue.

Paint the paper plate.

Let the paint dry completely.

Trace handprint

While the paint is drying, trace a little handprint on the cardstock color of choice. You will need 3 total handprints. They can be all the same color like we did, or mix it up.

Cut out all handprints.

Cut out all the handprints.

Glue two handprints in back of plate for tail.

Now, when the paper plate is dry, glue two of the handprints to the back of the paper plate. They should be overlapping so it looks like one bushy fish tail.

Fold last handprint at wrist.

Then, fold the third handprint at the wrist.

Glue folded part of handprint to around the center of plate.

Glue just the folded section to roughly the middle of the fish for a fin.

Add googly eye. Also draw mouth and wavy lines for scales with metallic marker.

Finally, add a large googly eye. Also, use the metallic marker to draw a simple O for a mouth and wavy lines for fish scales.
