With the leaves now starting to fall, it’s the perfect time to make a scarecrow. But if you’ve already made one, or you’re still looking forward to making yours, put those cute little hands to use still with this super easy Paper Plate Handprint Scarecrow Craft!

Really, the only other piece for this craft you’ll need is the hat. And we have a Free Printable Scarecrow Hat Template for just that! Print and cut it out, then pick what color of hat your scarecrow will have. Then, the handprints are the messy straw hair coming out from all sides!

Fall Handprint Scarecrow Paper Plate Craft

To make our handprint scarecrow craft, you’ll first want to print our scarecrow hat template.

Then, you’ll need paper plates, cardstock in yellow and your choice of colors, buttons, medium sized googly eyes, tan acrylic paint, a black marker, scissors, and a glue stick.

Handprint Scarecrow Craft Supplies Needed

  • Scarecrow Hat Template
  • Paper plates
  • Cardstock – yellow, choice of colors
  • Tan acrylic paint
  • Black marker
  • Googly eyes, medium
  • Buttons
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick

Paper Plate Scarecrow Craft Step by Step Directions

Begin by painting a paper plate tan.

Paint paper plate tan.

Let the paint dry completely.

Cut hat shape and strip for hat belt.

While the paint is drying, print the scarecrow hat template and cut it out. Pick your choice of cardstock colors, trace the hat, and cut out. You will also need to cut a strip for the belt in another color.

Glue strip to hat.

Glue the strip to the hat.

Glue strip to hat and add button or buckle.

Cut away the excess from along the sides and add a button or buckle.

Trace and cut out two handprints.

Now, trace and cut out two yellow handprints.

Glue handprints to sides of hat.

Glue the handprints to the sides of the hat.

Glue hat to top of paper plate.

Then, when the paper plate is dry, glue the hat and handprints in place at the top of the paper plate.

Add googly eyes.

Add googly eyes.

Add nose, mouth, and details with black marker.

Finish the scarecrow by using a black marker to draw a triangle nose and nose. Also draw a few crosshatch marks on the hat to show that it’s a bit tattered and torn. But still so super cute!
