Make a Paper Watermelon Fan

To make our Paper Watermelon Fan Craft you will need construction paper in bright pink and green, a square of heavier cardstock, a black sharpie, glue, and scissors.

Watermelon Fan Craft Supplies Needed

  • Construction paper – pink, 2 shades of green
  • Brown cardstock
  • Black sharpie
  • Scissors
  • Clear tape
  • Glue stick

Watermelon Craft Step by Step Directions

Begin with pink and 2 different shades of green construction paper.

Cut pieces of construction paper.

You will need to cut out a larger piece of pink paper. Then, you will need 2 strips of green paper. The dark green paper should be just slightly wider than the lighter green paper.

Glue paper together.

Attach the light green colored strip along either side of the pink paper. Overlap both papers slightly. Attach the dark green paper strip along the open end of the light green paper. Again, overlap both papers slightly. Allow the glue to dry entirely before proceeding to the next step.

Draw seeds on watermelon with black sharpie.

Use a black sharpie to draw seed shapes on the pink paper. Keep the seeds near the green borders.

Accordion fold papers.

Carefully, create accordion folds on the paper. Try to keep the folds small, nice and even as much as you can.

Tape in fan shape.

Hold the pink side of the accordion folded paper together and use a clear tape to join that part tightly. This will form a fan shape.

Wrap and tape cardstock handle to fan.

Finally, cut out a square shape from a heavier piece of brown cardstock. We’re using a piece of cardstock that’s 3” x 2”. Wrap the paper around the narrow end of the fan pattern and then glue the open end of the wrapped paper to secure it. This will be the handle of the paper fan.
