Plastic Bottle Frankenstein Craft

One of my favorite ways to craft is to reuse items we would normally throw away. Like bottles. We have plenty of both glass and plastic water and drink bottles just waiting to be recycled. Before they wind up in the recycling bin, however, might as well have some fun with them. This time we’re using plastic bottles in this Plastic Bottle Frankenstein Craft that is definitely fun and such a cute decoration for Halloween!

For our Plastic Bottle Frankenstein Halloween Craft, you’ll of course need plastic bottles. You’ll also need green and black paint, googly eyes, a black marker, scissors, and a 1” hole punch.

The 1″ hole punch was used to punch holes for Frankenstein’s caps. The 1″ hole will still be slightly too small, so you’ll need to keep going around it with the punch, trimming off a bit around each edge until it just fits. Not that circles have edges, but I hope you get what I mean. I found this way so much easier than using scissors, and less dangerous, but you could trace around the top of the cap and cut it out that way, too, or with an x-acto knife, or experiment with a slightly larger hole punch.

Supplies needed:

  • plastic bottle
  • 2 bottle caps
  • green and black acrylic paint
  • black marker
  • googly eyes
  • 1″ hole punch
  • scissors

First, clean and dry your plastic bottle. Plastic bottles with a smooth middle surface would work best. Then, cut until you have about 3 inches of the bottom remaining. The bottom will now be your top. Take your 1” hole punch and punch a hole right before you get to the line where the bottom, now the top, begins. Trim around until the bottle caps just fit.

Paint the main part of the bottle cap green. This may need a couple coats. Painting the inside, too, results in a deeper color. Then, paint the bottom, now top, of the bottle black for Frankenstein’s hair and the bottle caps painted black, as well.

Let paint dry completely before gently squeezing bottle caps into holes. Touch up as necessary.

  1. That is super cute! It would make a great craft for my daughter’s scout troop. I will have to email this to her leader. She is always looking for low cost craft ideas.
