There’s a fairly large age gap between my oldest child and youngest. Almost 14 years. A lot has changed in that time, both in everyday life and in how I parent. But one constant that’s remained the same is the song You Are My Sunshine. I’ve sung it to every one of my children when they were little. Thus, it only makes sense that we would make a Pop Out You Are My Sunshine Card.
This Pop Out You Are My Sunshine Card is the perfect gift for Mother’s Day, to let mom know just how important she is. It’s also a great card to make for other occasions, too. Like Valentine’s Day, birthdays, simply to celebrate spring, or just to let that certain someone know just how special they are to you.
For our Pop Out You Are My Sunshine Card you will need cardstock in blue and white with regular construction paper in yellow. Aside from that, you’ll need scissors, a glue stick, along with a white marker pen to write your message.
Pop Out You Are My Sunshine Card
- Cardstock – blue, white
- Construction paper – yellow
- Glue stick
- White marker pen
- Cup and pencil (to make circles)
First, cut a blue sheet of cardstock in half. Fold one of the halves in half and unfold.
Fold a sheet of yellow construction paper in half, then in half again, and in half again. Now, take a cup and trace the rim on the yellow paper. I prefer this way, because it’s easier, but an actual size would be about 4 inches. Cut out. This should give you 4 circles each. You will need 8 circles total for the sun.
Also, cut triangles from the rest of the yellow paper.
Glue one of the yellow circles in the center of the folded line of the blue cardstock. This is the base.
Glue the triangles around the yellow circle.
Fold the remaining yellow circles in half. Glue one side of each yellow circle to the next yellow circle.
Then, glue all the yellow circles to the base circle.
From the white paper, cut out 4 puffy cloud shapes to fit around the sun. Cut some to look as if they’re escaping off the card. Finally, write You Are My Sunshine for mom. Or, simply use without the message to celebrate the sunny days of spring!
