Rainy Day Q-Tip Painting Craft
The thing about spring is, it rains a lot. Rather than get down about the rain, though, we’re having fun with it and making those rainy days the basis for our Rainy Day Q-Tip Painting Craft! With a super easy umbrella made from cupcake liners.

Q-tip painting is really fun and a great craft for toddlers. It’s fun for all, too. Simply dip in paint and dot across the page. We used blue cardstock as the backdrop and a blue paint for the rain for a very subtle, very rainy effect.

Q-Tip Painting Rainy Day Craft

To make our rainy day umbrella craft you will need dark blue cardstock, a close but different shade of blue acrylic paint, q-tips, cupcake liners, metallic markers, a black marker, and a glue stick.
Rainy Day Umbrella Craft Supplies Needed
- Dark blue cardstock
- Blue acrylic paint
- Q-tips
- Paper cupcake liners
- Markers – metallic, black
- Glue stick
Rainy Day Q-Tip Painting Craft Step by Step Directions
Begin with a dark blue sheet of cardstock and a close, but different, shade of blue acrylic paint.

Then, gather a cupcake liner and fold in half.

We used white and yellow paper cupcake liners. We used a black marker to decorate the white cupcake liners. Use any colors or design of cupcake liners you may have.

Glue the cupcake liner together then glue to the middle of the sheet of cardstock, curve facing up.Take a metallic marker and draw a handle on the umbrella.

Now, pour your paint and gather some q-tips. Dip the tip of the q-tip in the paint.

Then begin making raindrops above the umbrella and to the sides of it. It’s an umbrella, so try not to make any rain directly under it.

Continue dotting with the q-tip until your rainy day scene is complete.

We love the effect of the q-tip raindrops against the blue cardstock. Such a lovely spring craft!
