I am taking part in My Single Friend‘s Romantic Rendezvous Competition where I am being challenged to come up with my most romantic moment.
First, let me explain what I always used to think of when I thought about romance. They were these grandiose displays of affection, more about money and the moment than about the person. Which isn’t to say that a place and time are not romantic, they definitely can be. But a stroll through Paris and kissing under the Eiffel Tower won’t really matter if you’re with the wrong person.
Romance is not about flowers or about jewelry. It’s not being whisked away to exotic locations. Those things can be romantic, but only if you’re with the right person.
Because romance doesn’t last. Love does.
So to me, I’m more than happy to have romance in the everyday. The way we hold hands in a busy supermarket, making it feel if only for a second like we’re the only two in the store. A knowing glance from across the room. A special letter written on a birthday. A whispered I love you before falling asleep in his arms.
Now, if I ever get that stroll through Paris and kiss under the Eiffel Tower, maybe then I’ll change my mind.
