It’s time for Santa crafts! We’re starting off with this adorable Simple Shape Cotton Ball Santa Craft. This is a perfect Christmas craft for toddlers to start off a truly merry and bright holiday season!

Simple Shape Cotton Ball Santa Craft

We have a Free Printable Simple Shape Santa Template for all the shape pieces needed for this Christmas craft. There’s a couple large circles for the body, smaller circles for cheeks and nose, a triangle hat, and a rectangle strip for the hat brim. Then, just trace and cut them out of the Santa colors of cardstock. Finish Santa with a fluffy, cotton ball beard.

So not only is this a truly sweet and fun Christmas toddler craft, but it’s also a festive lesson in  further learning about shapes, too. Then, it’s fine motor practice with all the cutting out of the shapes. Who knew Santa was so educational?

For our Christmas Santa craft, you will first want to print our simple shape Santa template. Then, you will need cardstock in red, white, tan, two shades of pink, as well as the background color of choice. The rest of the supplies include white cotton balls, small googly eyes, scissors, and glue

We also used a 1” circle paper punch to make the pink cheeks and a ⅝” circle paper punch to make the nose, but we’ve included the shapes on the template, too. 

Simple Shape Santa Craft Supplies Needed

Cotton Ball Santa Craft Step by Step Directions

Begin by printing the Santa template and cut out the pieces.

Trace and cut out template pieces.

Trace the largest circle on red cardstock, as well as the triangle. Trace the other large circle on tan cardstock. Leave the strip white.

Two 1 inch pink circles.

You will need two of the 1” circles in a lighter shade of pink cardstock, the smallest circle in a darker shade of pink. Either trace and cut out the circles from the template or use circle paper punches.

Cut largest red circle in half.

Now, cut the largest red circle in half.

Glue half circle to bottom of cardstock.

Glue half of the red circle to the bottom of a sheet of cardstock in your choice of background colors.

Glue tan circle on top of red.

Adhere the tan circle on top of the red half circle.

Glue brim to hat, cut off excess, and glue hat in place.

Add the white brim to the red triangle hat. Cut off the excess along the edges. Then, glue in place. You can fold the top of the hat over if you’d like. 

Glue cheeks, nose, and eyes.

Next, add cheeks, nose, and eyes.

Add cotton ball to tip of hat.

Then, apply glue to the tip of the hat. Add a cotton ball to the tip of the hat.

Apply glue and add cotton balls.

Lastly, apply glue where Santa’s beard will be, around his face, and across the brim of the hat.

Add cotton balls until Santa's beard is full and fluffy.

Add cotton balls to the glue until Santa’s beard is full and fluffy and so fun!

A fun Christmas Santa craft for toddlers using simple shapes and cotton balls

Materials

  • Simple Shape Santa Template
  • Cardstock - red, white, tan, 2 shades of pink, background color
  • White cotton balls
  • Googly eyes, small
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • 1” circle paper punch (optional)
  • ⅝” circle paper punch (optional)

Instructions

  1. Begin by printing the Santa template and cut out the pieces.
  2. Trace the largest circle on red cardstock, as well as the triangle. Trace the other large circle on tan cardstock. Leave the strip white.

  9. Then, apply glue to the tip of the hat. Add a cotton ball to the tip of the hat.
  10. Lastly, apply glue where Santa’s beard will be, around his face, and across the brim of the hat.
  11. Add cotton balls to the glue until Santa’s beard is full and fluffy and so fun!

Notes

  • Either trace and cut out the circles for the cheeks and nose from the template or use circle paper punches. You will need a 1" circle paper punch for the two cheek circles and a 5/8" circle paper punch for the nose.
