St. Patrick’s Day Glitter Play Dough
Today, I’m bypassing the rest of February and going straight to St. Patrick’s Day and our St. Patrick’s Day Glitter Play Dough.
A few years back I posted how to make play dough with Kool-Aid. Yes, my blog goes back that far. Farther than that, even. The Kool-Aid Play Dough was actually the very first crafty thing I posted, though, before that it was more of a journal and funny things my kids did kind of blog.
Anyway, I took the same play dough recipe and wanted to make something festive and fun to get my kids excited for St. Patrick’s Day! Not just any St. Patrick’s Day play dough, though. There’s glitter, too.
Green play dough with gold sparkles and yellow play dough with green sparkles.
The best thing about this play dough is that it’s also edible. Very salty, but 100% edible. As my guy almost found out as he came in to see what I was cooking. I had to quickly stop him before he dipped a finger in to take a taste. You can, but you probably don’t want to. Especially since the glitter had already been added in.
St. Patrick’s Day Glitter Play Dough
Supplies needed:
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup flour
- 1/4 cup salt
- 2 tbsp cream of tartar
- 1 tbsp oil
- 2 packs of Kool-Aid for each color, I used green apple and lemonade
- 2 tbsp. glitter for each color, green and gold
Combine all ingredients in a medium pan over medium heat. When mixture begins to thicken, add in your glitter. Continue to stir until mixture forms around spoon. Turn off heat and remove dough to somewhere to cool. Knead once cool enough to touch. Store separately in ziploc bags or airtight containers.
And, with the Kool-Aid, it smells good, too. What a fun way to get excited for St. Patrick’s Day! Be sure to check out the other St. Patrick’s Day craft ideas at Our Kid Things!
