For our Star of the Show Family Movie Night viewing party, I first made up these replica Walk of Fame Star Printables that I then added my kids’ names to. Print on regular paper and add to any black frames you have around for a fun Hollywood Star effect. Who knows, maybe they’re a sign of what’s to come! Hollywood, here we come!

Since any good movie needs a cup of popcorn, I also printed a set of these super cute Star of the Show labels that go along with our theme that I then stuck on plastic cups. I used 2” diameter circle sticker label paper that you can get at Walmart, as well.

Popcorn isn’t quite enough, however. Thus, we also made a batch of Star of the Show Sugar Cookies! These cookies are darling and delicious, a winning combination. And they’re also easy to make, even with the homemade icing, too. That’s even better, yet.

For our Star of the Show Sugar Cookies, you’ll need to combine butter, sugar, vanilla extract, and almond extract. To that, add a mix of baking powder and flour. Here’s where the fun part begins, though, because you’ll need to play with your food. Since it’s a thick dough, the best way to get it all mixed together is with your hands on a clean counter. Knead until it all comes together. At that point, section off into workable batches. Roll out until the dough is about ¼” inch thick. Then, begin cutting shapes out of the dough with a star cookie cutter.

Place on a baking sheet and bake in a 350 degree preheated oven for about 7 minutes, or until just the slightest bit golden. While the cookies are baking, though, you can make the icing with powdered sugar, milk, light corn syrup, vanilla extract, and yellow food coloring. Pour icing mixture into a plastic sandwich, cutting just the smallest amount of tip from one corner. Trace around the edges of the cookies and fill.

Add star sprinkles. Because you can’t go wrong with star sprinkles.

And it’s a Star of the Show movie night that everyone will remember with my stars, of my show. This would also be a fun way to reward a good report card, an A on a test, or if they did something nice for a friend.

An award worthy performance, some might say. In that case, we better get our acceptance speech ready.

  2. Cream butter and sugar until smooth.

  6. Place on baking sheet and bake for about 7 minutes, until just barely golden. Let cool slightly before transferring to wire rack.

  8. Add corn syrup and vanilla. Stir until smooth. If too thick, add just a bit more corn syrup.
  9. Drop in food coloring until desired color.
  10. Pour icing mixture into plastic bag. Snip just the tiniest bit of tip from the corner of the bag and begin piping around the edge of the cookies before filling in. Let set.
