Tape Resist Christmas Tree Craft
We’ve really enjoyed making tape resist art recently. It’s a really fun way to create blocks of color in art. I just knew that we would have to try it for Christmas trees and I’m so happy with how our Tape Resist Christmas Tree Craft turned out. They’re simple, but so stunning!

We use washi tape to make our tape resist art. This works mostly well, though it can pull the paper up with it at times. Not often, but it does happen. The trick is not to press the washi tape down at all. Apply no pressure when you’re laying down the strips. You can always try painter’s tape or masking tape instead.

For this craft, we used the thinnest strips of washi tape, so it would make the thinnest lines. Like lines of garland going around the Christmas tree. A small paint brush also works best, to make sure the paint doesn’t cross over the lines.
Christmas Tree Tape Resist Art Craft
To make our Christmas trees, you’ll need acrylic paints in your choice of colors, heavy white cardstock, brown and yellow cardstock, thin rolls of washi tape, scissors, and a glue stick.

Christmas Tree Art Craft Supplies Needed
- Acrylic paint – choice of colors
- Cardstock – white, brown, yellow
- Washi tape, thin rolls
- Scissors
- Glue stick
Christmas Tape Resist Craft Step by Step Directions
Begin by cutting triangles from a sheet of white cardstock.

Make the triangles any size or shape you’d like. Tall triangles, short triangles, wide triangles, slim triangles. It’s all your vision at this point.

Now, with all your chosen paint colors poured on a palette, begin applying thin strips of washi tape across a triangle.

When the tape is set, start painting in between the lines.

We chose lots of greens for our Christmas trees. Red and blues, with a bit of yellow. A small amount of pink and purple made their way in, too.

Then, once all the paint has been applied, carefully remove the strips of washi tape. At this point, let the paint dry completely.

Once the paint is dry, cut a rectangle from brown cardstock and glue in place at the bottom of the tree.

Finally, draw a simple star on yellow cardstock.

Cut out the star and glue in place at the top of the Christmas tree. Such a fun Christmas craft that’s sure to keep everyone busy for at least a cold afternoon.
