Tape Resist Spider Web Craft
Ever since we started doing tape resist crafts earlier this year, I couldn’t wait to do a spider web. This Tape Resist Spider Web Craft certainly didn’t disappoint! It’s colorful and vibrant and both the outcome and the process are so fun. Definitely one of our favorites!

Because every spider web needs a spider inhabitant, we made ours with thumbprints. Then, we added simple legs with markers and little white dots for eyes. It’s the cutest, sweetest, and yes, still the most colorful spider web around. A perfect Halloween art craft project for kids!

Halloween Spider Web Tape Resist Craft
To make our spider web craft, you’ll need washi tape in various widths, though we mostly used the skinnier washi tape.

You’ll also need acrylic paint in assorted Halloween-ish colors, white cardstock, a black sharpie, and a white paint pen.
Tape Resist Spider Web Craft Supplies Needed
- Washi tape
- Acrylic paint – black, blue, purple, green, red, orange, yellow, gray
- White cardstock
- Black sharpie
- White paint pen
Thumbprint Spider Craft Step by Step Directions
Begin by gathering washi tape in various sizes and heavy cardstock. We like to use the thinner washi tape for this craft.

Place washi tape from corner to corner on the white cardstock. Also across the middle vertically and horizontally.

Then, use smaller pieces of washi tape to connect the main strips.

Now, pour all the paint you’ll be using in a paint palette. We used all the colors you would think of for Halloween; red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, gray, and black.

Paint in the open spaces between the washi tape.

We like to use a small paint brush for this, as it gets in the small corners more precisely.

Continue painting until all the spaces are filled.

Then, once your page is all painted, carefully remove the tape. Washi tape should be easy to remove, but we find it best to remove the tape while the paint is still wet. If you find the tape is ripping the paper, though, we’ve found all we need to do is try removing the tape from the other direction and that usually solves the issue.

When all the tape is removed, let the paint dry completely.

Lastly, dip a thumb in black paint. Press the thumb somewhere on the spider web to form a spider. Let that dry completely.

Once the thumbprint is dry, add simple legs with a black sharpie as well as small white dots with a white paint pen.
