How to Teach an Old Dog New Tricks

Our dog has never been the most playful. He loves to go outside and run around, he’ll gladly chase after the kids. He’ll go on all the walks you want to take him on. Him and the cat also engage in their daily game of tag. But give him a ball and he doesn’t know what to do with it.
The exercise that comes from active playing, however, is so important. Especially for an older dog, and our Snoop is getting up there in age now. Forget what they say, though, about teaching an old dog new tricks. It can be done, you just have to speak their language. And we found his through Milk-Bone® ActiveTM Toys.
Found in the dog toy aisle at Meijer, Milk-Bone Active Toys are designed to provide a fun, entertaining and rewarding activity for your dog. They’re made of high-quality, durable, non-toxic material and are specifically designed to work with Milk-Bone biscuits. Because while he’s not a big fan of playing, he’ll make an exception for his treats. Be sure to take advantage of the $2 off the small toys and $3 off the medium toys, valid until 3/17/18, Milk-Bone Active Toys mPerks offer!
Not knowing for sure which he’d prefer, we picked up both the Small Dispensing Ball for small biscuits and the Small Treat Tumbler for minis biscuits. Both are recommended for dogs up to 24 pounds and both come with a sample pack of Milk-Bone biscuits.
For the bigger dogs, there’s also a Medium Dispensing Ball with medium biscuits and a Medium Treat Tumbler with minis biscuits. These are both recommended for dogs between 25 – 49 pounds.
The concept is simple. Take a Milk-Bone biscuit and insert it into the active dog toy. Then, the more the dog plays, the more he’s rewarded. It’s an easy-to-use design that allows you to enrich your dog’s daily routine with a mentally and physically stimulating activity. It’s an easy way to teach an old dog new tricks.
The ball we’ve really had a lot of fun with. It bounces and rolls to drive your dog’s playful instincts. Which Snoop has, we just have to work them out. The old dog, he’s been set in his ways.
He’s slowly coming around, though, with some extra love, encouragement, and the reward of Milk-Bone biscuits.
