You know it’s a holiday meal when you see a green bean casserole on the table. That familiar dish of Del Monte® Green Beans, Campbell’s® Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup, and French’s® Crispy Fried Onions, baked until bubbly and served alongside the rest of the feast.
This is my twist.
While at Walmart on my daily shopping trip, yes I’m there a lot, I picked up the cans needed to make the base of the original green bean casserole. Campbell’s Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup is the perfect base because it’s just the right texture and so flavorful while French’s® Crispy Fried Onions adds a perfect bite on top. But then, I wanted to switch it up just a bit for now, because I also had plans for it later.
I’m a mushroom person. I can’t get enough. Some people don’t like mushrooms and I respect that, although I don’t understand it. So even with the Campbell’s Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup, I still wanted more mushrooms in my green bean casserole. They were then sauteed just until tender in a bit of butter.
I also added bacon pieces. Because why not.
Now, the original recipe calls for baking the dish in the oven, but with my green bean casserole twist that option comes later. Thus, after the mushrooms were sauteed, I added everything in a medium sized pot and let simmer until combined and hot.
That’s where the potatoes come in, but you’ll have to wait for my post next week for the full recipe!
Next time you’re in Walmart, go look at the screens by the green bean casserole display at the end of the aisle. I can never have enough mushrooms either!!! One of my daughters does not like mushrooms and I don’t get it but like you I respect it. It doesn’t mean that I have to set a portion aside for her whenever I do cook with mushrooms.
Yum, this is right up my alley. My husband isn’t a big casserole fan but I am and since he loves mushrooms I can usually get away with mushroom casseroles. I’ll try this one out next week.

My dad can’t go anywhere NEAR a mushroom because of an awful experience he had like 50 years ago lol. I however LOVE mushrooms and would love them in my casserole!
