Over the weekend, we took the opportunity to combine Groundhog’s Day with Valentine’s Day in this adorable Valentine’s Day Groundhog Paper Bag Puppet!

Valentine's Groundhog Paper Bag Puppet

This Valentine’s Groundhog Paper Bag Puppet is a terrific teaching tool for Groundhog’s Day while also being fun for Valentine’s Day. What makes this super easy, done in less than 5 minutes craft a combination of the two days, you may ask? Because the main shape of the groundhog’s face is made from a heart! It’s ears are also made from another heart, which we cut in two.

Your own heart will love how your kids put their own spin on this paper bag puppet!

Supplies needed:

  • brown lunch paper bag
  • brown cardstock
  • white and black construction paper
  • glue stick
  • scissors

First, cut a round heart to fit the paper bag. Glue in place with the tip of the heart pointed up. Cut another smaller heart and snip it in half. Glue each of the halves on top of the back of the bag for ears.

Cut two circles from white paper. Glue those in place for it’s eyes. Also cut a rectangle from white paper. Cut that rectangle lengthwise, leaving it still together on end. Glue in place under the curve of the heart for it’s teeth. Cut two thinner, longer rectangles and cut those twice lengthwise, leaving them in tact on one end, as well. Glue these in place for it’s whiskers. With your black paper, cut a rounded triangle for it’s nose along with two smaller circles for the inside of it’s eyes.
