I was asked to share information about Timocco but all opinions are my own.
Occupational therapy has been an essential piece of the puzzle for Buzz in working with his autism. We started with therapists when he was 4 years old and he’s continued on with OT at school. With this help, my Buzz has come such a long way and I’m amazed every day at his progress. Though I also know that we still have a long way to go.
If we could practice more of these therapies at home, however, I know it would be of even greater benefit in the long run. Except I was never sure of where to start or exactly what to do. With Timocco, an online virtual-motion gaming platform that is revolutionizing pediatric therapy, we have it all there in a series of fun educational games in front of us that are designed to reduce sensitivity to sensory impressions like touch and sound and enable children with Autism to coordinate actions and movements more effectively. Though you don’t need to have ASD to get a benefit out of Timocco, it can help any child with difficulties in motor control and cognitive skills.
There’s a story of Tomer, who sounds a lot like my Buzz even now. It’s difficult for him to focus on the task at hand and he’s always on the move. After starting Timocco and playing for awhile, Tomer now succeeds at remaining engaged for a length of time, approximately ten minutes, with only verbal assistance.
10 minutes, that’s huge!
Timocco was developed by a team of experts in the field of child development, including Sarit Tresser who has degrees in both Computer Graphics and also Occupational Therapies. Along with Shai Yagur, a leading mind in virtual motion and computer vision tracking technology, the two created what Timocco is today. Found in schools, hospitals, clinics, and homes, the software works in a browser with a web cam that is used to track body movements similar to Xbox Kinect and PlayStation Eye but at no time is video or audio recorded by the program. These games are designed to work in conjunction with your existing therapist or to augment that person’s treatment plan. Timocco also has a staff of in-house Occupational Therapists, who can assist with developing personalized treatment plans as well.
Timocco is available for Windows as well as Mac OS. You can learn more as well as purchase Timocco here, with plans starting at $20 / month with a one year subscription (billed monthly).
