Yarn Wrapped Cardboard Pencil Craft
Kids are beginning to settle back into a school routine. They’re packed with papers and pencils and folders. And homework! There’s still time to take a minute in all the madness for a fun school craft, though, like this Yarn Wrapped Cardboard Pencil Craft!
This Yarn Wrapped Cardboard Pencil Craft is truly one of my favorites and uses one of my favorite supplies; yarn! I’d find a way to wrap everything in yarn if I could. For a fun pencil craft that doesn’t involve yarn, however, be sure to check out our Cardboard Roll Duck Tape Pencil Craft, too.
Aside from yellow yarn, the rest of our supplies for our Yarn Wrapped Pencil Craft include roughly 1 ½” strips of cardboard, scissors, glue, tape, number stickers, and paper in black and pink. Easy peasy!

Supplies needed:
- cardboard, roughly 1 ½” wide strips
- yellow yarn
- construction paper – pink and black
- number stickers
- scissors
- school glue
- clear tape
Begin by cutting cardboard into strips about 1 ½” wide and whatever length feels best. Cut a point on end.
Cut two triangles out of the black construction paper. Make jagged edges into the bottom. Also cut two long, thin rectangles from the black construction paper. From the pink paper, cut two rectangles roughly the same width as the cardboard, long enough to fold over both sides.
Glue the pink paper in place over the flat end of the cardboard. Glue one of the long, thin rectangles of black paper around the pink paper.
On the other end, glue the triangle to the tip of the cardboard. Trim to fit if needed.
Tape the end of the yarn to the back of the cardboard and begin wrapping until completely covered.
When finished wrapping, cut the yarn and tie off to secure.
Affix a number 2 sticker. And it’s a pencil that’s always sharp, just like you this school year! It’s going to be a great year!
